Podcast’s root can trace back to blog. It is also called “audio blogging”. I have known it for some time but haven’t been a frequent user.
Podcast offers unique value, almost like radio, will be perfect to listen to during commute to and from work ever day, while cooking dinner for family and cleanup of houses…..A great solution for busy people nowadays to gain the needed information and stay up to date. It helps people to make best use of their fragmented time. I typically listen to radio during commute while my previous boss always listened to podcast extensively to get news. He would almost become panic if he didn’t get to the list of podcast set up right to enjoy during driving. For guidance counselors and private counselors, busy with working sessions with students and their families, podcast provides an effective time management tool to keep the daily work going while continue to elevate their professional knowledge and expertise.
Podcast is almost like a midpoint between blog and video. The inherited difference between podcast and website or video is visual. The reason behind my infrequent use of podcast has something to do the missing element of visual. To read an article online or on paper, I can go back and forth to ensure I fully grasp the meaning of the article and the intention of author. If I forget something, it is easy to go back scanning the article and finding it quickly. It is more challenging to do so while listening to a podcast. On the other end, besides word information, video sends out additional information via visual, for example, facial expression when people comment on something.
Through this course, I got to check on multiple podcast and listen to them and have learned a lot of new information on college counseling. As counselor relatively new to the field, I do need to learn a lot and learn them really fast, on top of staying updated with new changes in the field. Podcast provides a complementary new way to carry my learning, especially when I am driving, anyway, I can read a book or watch a video while I am driving. There is value to learn in a multi-dimension approach, living in our technology enabled society.
